Two Icelandair Hotels aim towards adopting ISO 14001
At the moment Icelandair Hotels are working on an adoption of an environmental management system for two of its hotels, Hotel Loftleiðir and Hilton Reykjavik Nordica. The plan is to have adopted the ISO 14001 standard before the beginning of summer 2011. ISO 14001 is a standard from The International Organization for Standardization that specifies the actual requirements for an environmental management system. It applies to those environmental aspects which the organization has control and over which it can be expected to have an influence.
A new and detailed environmental policy is in the making but that will include the companies environmental goals as well as a plan of constant improvement so that the negative impact on the environment will be minimized. By getting an environmental certification Icelandair Hotel want to be a rolemodel and show a good example when it comes to environmental issues.
Icelandair Hotels are taking one of the first steps towards an efficient environmental management system by having an employee from Íslenska Gámafélagið holding three lectures for the staff of Icelandair Hotels regarding the handling of waste. It is the goal of Icelandair Hotels to establish an effective sorting system and minimize the waste that comes from the hotel.
