Opinions are divided as to whether taking a shower or bathing in the bathtub is more environmentally friendly or shall we say less damaging to the environment. Water use is most important in this respect. If you take a long shower, it is possibly more detrimental for the environment than if you submerge yourself in a half-filled bathtub. The use of warm water is expensive and therefore it should not be used in excess. Daily bathing of everybody in a large family can cost enormous sums on a monthly basis. Each family has to discover what is most advantageous for them, and to bear in mind that water is neither a free nor inexhaustible resource.

In the case of elderly or sick people, all kinds of helpful gadgets are available such as a grind on the bathtub and at the shower. Non-slippery mats are also extremely useful, because many accidents happen when someone slips during or after the shower/bath.
