Children that play outside are usually healthier than those that spend most of their time indoors. Clean air and playing with things from nature is beneficial for both parents and children. If there is a possibility of fitting in a sand box somewhere, it is worthwhile, because the sand is like clay for the child’s imagination. Anything can be made from sand and the child’s imagination is stimulated. You only need a balcony to be able to fit in a little sand box.

If there is a garden nearby, a swing, hut or a slide is a good addition, because children are nowhere as happy as where they have the safety and the freedom to create their own world and move around in it. It is important that the toys correspond to the child´s developmental level. It is also important that safety and security in the home and garden are ensured. Toys made from thick plastic materials cannot be considered environmentally friendly and they practically never decompose. Wooden toys however are durable and natural, besides being made from material that can be recycled. When the sand box and the hut have served their purpose they can always be turned into something else.
