Coffee and Tea
The cultivation of coffee beans, tea bushes (and other plants which are used as tea) has to be clean and natural in order to ensure quality. Also the quality depends on how burning, drying, storage and packaging takes place.
Organic or eco-labelling involves the whole process from cradle to grave and ensures that nowhere and at no time, harmful chemicals have been used, and that work proceeds with the environment and quality in mind, according to the strictest standards.
Coffee is produced by burning the beans of the coffee plant. The growing of the plant itself is just like all other cultivation either with or without synthetic chemicals such as fertilizer or pesticides. By buying organically grown coffee you can ensure that you are not polluting your body or the environment. Fair trade involves both tea and coffee production and ensures that the workers receive adequate payment and have good working conditions.
- It is best to buy organic and fair trade certified coffee.
- Buy durable porcelain mugs for the coffee. It is not environmentally friendly to use paper or plastic cups.
- It is not advisable to buy tea in bags, it is better to buy it in cans. If you buy bags, be sure that they decompose.
- It is best to use a reusable sieve or a tea pot.
- Place used tea leafs and coffee residuals straight into the compost or tree beds where it decomposes beautifully and is good fertilizer.
- It is fun to give organic and fair trade coffee to friends and relatives as presents.
- Spread the good news. Encourage your workplace to buy fair trade organic coffee.
- Do not make more coffee each time a guest comes rather make it when its really needed.
